I’m so proud of my friend. It was only a matter of time before this happened. He’s been wound so tight since we met back in 2016. He’s a very deep person that I find extremely fascinating. His empathic view on life, himself, and others makes me think deeply and boosts my creativity.
Last night, we went out to karaoke and had an amazing time. If you’ve been sober as long as my friend has, you’re bound to go a little overboard. So many “recovering alcoholics” have taken that a sign of weakness. It’s not. It’s natural. Your body was waiting for this. It built up the momentum it needed for this moment. It’ll take my friend some time to get back into the swing of things again. When he had guilt of drinking before, he was immature and made foolish choices. Now, as time passes, he’ll understand his alcohol limitations.
He’s very intelligent, and I am thinking of asking him to spread the message about understanding your alcohol limitations. We all have them. No one is meant to be alcohol-free. There’s no such thing as an alcoholic. There’s only fear of worrying you’re going to do what my friend did last night. It’s mostly painless with the possibility of a slight hangover.
We are all tempted to try it. It’s like sex. You’re going to be a shit to live with umtil ypu do it. I could give you all the reasons why you’re not sure about it after you’ve tried it or try to convince yourself that the guilty feeling you’re claiming has nothing to do with your denial of being excited about the next time you get to do it again.
During my incarceration, I went to a lot of AA Meetings. I heard the stories and mentally laughed at everyone because the moment an inmate was released, the first thing they’d do is hit up a liquor store or buy some pot from their friends they talked with during their time in county jail.
Drinking doesn’t make you a bad person. Acting like you’re above the ones that do drink makes you uneducated. You’re not a bad person, just an uneducated one.
Anyhow, I’m getting off the beaten path. My friend did a good thing. He hung out with people he trusted and had a great time. I was both happy and shocked to see this side of him. I got so used to the sober version of him that I wasn’t sure what to think at first. I think my friend met a newfound strength yesterday that he didn’t know existed or hid from himself and the rest of the world for 10 years too long. Of course, I’m checking in on him a little more protectively now. He’s spreading his wings more. But, he’s also assuring me in a fun-loving way to back off and let him figure this out for himself.
Before, my friend seemed to isolate himself unnecessarily. Now, he’s naturally letting people in. He’s still himself, just a more elevated dude. I’m glad to see it. I remember him talking to my best friend and I with a seemingly sad tone about not having wine with us. I told him no, but I wish I would’ve let him come out of his shell sooner. I think we all feel our friends will spiral into despair and further depression if they choose to hope off the wago, so-to-speak. I’m not sure if my friend even realized how many people were rooting for him and supported his decision, especially when he went up to sing karaoke.
Some fear the person that comes out when they drink. I believe that person needs to come out. Telling someone they shouldn’t do something is only said by someone who doesn’t understand themselves in general. You can’t understand and be compassionate with someone else until you are able to do that for yourself. Don’t listen to others telling you how they believe you should live your life.
I’ve heard stories of others telling me they became gay basically because others believed they were. The person denied it but allowed others words to convince them that they were. So that’s how they live their life now. It’s all based on believing other people’s view of them. AA Meetings are manipulative and oppressive in their agrenda. That’s why the world is in so much chaos now. We believe this bullshit is natural.
I hope my words and my friend’s experience have made you think and opened your eyes to possibilities you may not have known existed until now. Have a great day.
